Essex Neurology Network Posted or Updated on 25 Feb 2026

Essex Neurology Network

  • Neurological conditions are the leading cause of disability worldwide and the second leading cause of death globally, accounting for approximately 9 million deaths per year.
  • 1 in 6 in the local population live with a neurological condition, that means at least 90,000 people in Essex are impacted each year.
  • Taking action to improve services can save money for the system and support economic prosperity, as well as benefitting patients.

  • The Aims of the Network are:

    • To raise awareness and promote understanding of neurological conditions;
    • To secure the highest standards of service and care for people with, or affected by, a neurological condition, and for their families and carers;
    • To build strong relationships between patients and professionals;
    • To facilitate & encourage research into the provision of services and neurological conditions.

    In order for us to further these aims, the Network plans to engage with people who have neurological conditions and work in partnership with them and their families and carers, ensuring they are involved and consulted. We wish to raise awareness and promote understanding of neurological conditions and the impact they have on individuals and families.

    By providing a regular forum for the exchange of information, skills and expertise on neurological need and models of best practice in neurological care, we hope to inform and influence policy makers about the needs of people with or affected by neurological conditions.

    In bringing together voluntary organisations, the independent sector and statutory organisations, including Health Trusts, NHS Commissioners and Social Care Commissioners, we aim to secure the highest standards of service and improved care for people with or affected by neurological conditions.

    We aim to promote joint education and awareness raising opportunities with staff working for neurological agencies, to be a reference group for all developments and initiatives with regard to support and services for people with or affected by neurological conditions and to promote and support research into neurological conditions and services.

    Membership of Essex Neurology Network is open to anyone interested in the Network’s aims, whether they be people with neurological conditions and their families and carers; representatives of charities and organisations that provide support for specific neurological conditions; representatives of statutory agencies providing diagnosis and treatment for neurological conditions or representatives of academic organisations, such as the University of Essex, involved in research about neurological conditions.

    We hold quarterly open meetings for Network members to promote the aims of the Network and will include presentations and reports from relevant organisations or research, feedback from the Committee and opportunities to network.

    Our Connexions bulletins are produced bi-monthly for our members, providing news and information about Essex services and up-to-date news.
