Yellow Heat Health Alert Posted or Updated on 20 May 2026

A UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Yellow Heat-Health Alert is in place from 9am on Thursday 22 May until 5pm on Tuesday 27 May.

While many people will welcome the warmer weather over the upcoming bank-holiday weekend, we are encouraging residents to take care during the hot spell, particularly older people, babies and young children, people with long-term health conditions, and those who may be more vulnerable to the effects of heat.

We want everyone to enjoy the warmer weather safely, but it is important to remember that high temperatures can be harmful and may increase the risk of dehydration, overheating, and heat exhaustion.

Our Executive Medical Director, Dr Matthew Sweeting, has shared advice to help residents stay safe and well during the warmer weather, including:

• drinking plenty of water throughout the day
• avoiding the sun during the hottest part of the day
• keeping homes cool where possible
• checking in on older or vulnerable friends, neighbours, and relatives
• knowing the signs of heat exhaustion and when to seek medical advice
