Bank Holiday 4 May 2026
Posted or Updated on 30 Apr 2026
Monday 4 May 2026 - Bank Holiday - We are closed and re open on Tuesday 5 May 2026
People across Essex are being encouraged to plan ahead for the May bank holidays and make sure they know where to go if they need medical help.
GP practices and many pharmacies will be closed on Monday 4 May and Monday 25 May. The NHS in Essex is reminding residents to check services in advance and ensure they have everything they need over the long weekends.
Order prescriptions early
If you take regular medication, it is important to order your repeat prescription at least seven working days before the bank holidays. This will help make sure you do not run out of essential medicines when services are closed.
Get the right help quickly
For urgent medical advice, people should use NHS 111 Online or call NHS 111. The service is available 24 hours a day and can guide you to the most appropriate care, helping you get support as quickly as possible.
Some pharmacies will still be open on bank holiday Mondays. You can check opening times and available services on the NHS website.
Support for mental health is also available 24 hours a day by calling NHS 111 and selecting the mental health option to access urgent support.
In an emergency
For serious or life-threatening emergencies, always call 999 emergency services or attend your nearest A&E department.
